The week of Jan. 30-Feb. 3

Happy Birthday Kansas yesterday!  The Kansas music program was so good!  The whole grade did a phenomenal  job!

We are finishing up our Kansas activities this week.  

Today we played Kansas symbol bingo in place of math using our sunflower seeds for markers. We  made butter taking turns shaking heavy whipping cream in a jar and ate it on a slice of wheat bread, along with a bit of honey from our state insect the honey bee. We also ate a bite out of a club cracker to see the state of Kansas.  Lastly, the kids could eat some sunflower seeds if they wanted.  I think they were surprised to see how many snacks are made from our Kansas products!

Phonics this week!  We are on to the long o with "oa" and "ow".  This concept is easier than the long e since most of the time the "oa" is in the middle of the word; whereas the "ow" is at the end of a word.

Math this week!--We are finishing up our chapter 5 on Place Value.  This week we are reading and writing to 120.  If you haven't heard your child count to 100, please have them count orally to you.  Then, see if he/she can keep counting past 100!  Most of the kids are doing awesome counting by 2's to 20 and 5's to 100.  Have them tell you what they can do!  

100's Day Celebration!

Friday, Feb. 3!  I'm looking forward to your child dressing up if they choose!  I hope your child is looking for a 100's collection at home!  It needs to fit in a baggie.  See the examples on the note sent home.  Please make sure he/she is the one who counts by 1's, 2's, 5's, or piles of 10 to 100 by themselves.  

Our Valentine's Day Party will be on Feb. 14!  3:00-3:30!  All parents are welcome to attend!  Sorry, younger siblings cannot attend.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be on Feb. 15, beginning at 4:00 and Feb. 16, beginning at 10:00 am.  You will be able to choose whether you would like a zoom conference or in-person conference. Please sign up when it works for you!
